On the 25th of November 2021, Vibelab will be producing a panel talk on Nighttime Recovery and Resilience and a Global Night Ambassadors lab at Stad Nach Acht in Berlin Germany.

About Stadt Nach Acht:

STADT NACH ACHT – the most important international conference on nightlife – presents a concentrated program spanning three days in November in Berlin.

More than 200 experts from over 30 nations combine their knowledge from the fields of culture, urban development, health & safety and economics in over 60 panels and 6 parallel strands at the Berlin conference. Numerous representatives from politics and administration also discuss possible development paths for the nocturnal city of tomorrow with the participants. What challenges do cities and their peripheries face in offering their 24-hour societies, especially at night, lovable and livable, low-conflict and future-oriented conditions?

About the panel:

On November 25th at 14:00, Vibelab will be presenting a panel on Nighttime Recovery & Resilience.

Joined by contributors to the Global Nighttime Recovery Plan:

Tara Duvier (Ch4: Sustaining our nightlife scenes)

Nandor Petrovics (Ch5: Nighttime Governance in Times of Covid)

Andreina Seijas (Content Manager)

Riccardo Ramello (Ch2: The Future of Dancefloors)

Juma Assiago Coordinator of the UN-Habitat Global Safer Cities Programme

Moderated by Lutz Leichsenring.

Cultural, community, and economic activity at night is essential to a city’s vibrancy and productivity, and supports numerous local and international industries. But the COVID-19 pandemic has thrown night-time economies and cultures into uncertainty around the globe. In many cities, clubs, venues and other gathering spaces will likely be the last to re-open, making night-time cultural economies highly vulnerable.

Global Night Ambassadors Lab

We will also be hosting a global night ambassadors lab session that discusses:
Which type of ambassadors are existing (Alexander Bücheli)
A Night-Culture Manifesto (Lutz Leichsenring)The language of the UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDG) to talk to politicians and decisions makers (Diana Raiselis)

There will be night ambassadors and activists from: Antwerpen, Barcelona, Berlin, Chêne-Bougeries, Eindhoven, Groningen, Innsbruck, Leipzig, Les Acacias, Madrid, Mannheim, Montreal, Munich, Nairobi, Paris, Prague, Sydney, Zurich and more.

The Lab is open to all SN8 Participants, but availability is limited so we ask you to register in advance here

As we begin to shift from lockdown to re-openings, we must re-envision how urban systems can coexist with the ongoing threat of COVID-19 — and those systems must extend into the night. That’s what VibeLab will do at this year’s edition of our conference together with numerous researchers and urban planners from around the globe.

read: 2 minutes

The City of Amsterdam will issue a maximum of four new 24-hour permits in 2022. Businesses with a 24-hour license determine their own opening and closing times and are allowed to be open day and night. Innovative proposals can be submitted from now on.

The 24-hour permits were introduced in 2012 by the municipality of Amsterdam — with the night mayor as the driving force — to stimulate a vibrant day and nightlife in the city. There are now thirteen Amsterdam clubs and catering establishments with a 24-hour permit. That will be expanded to seventeen in 2022. What is new in this round is that two of the four 24-hour permits are intended for restaurants. Hopefully, this will lead to more places in Amsterdam where you can eat until late (or from very early on) — something we’ve been advocating for some time.

To be selected entrepreneurs must write a plan before applying. The proposals will be assessed by a team of experts from the creative industry, including night mayor Ramon de Lima, and an official team. Among other things, the need for the permit is examined and whether it is innovative compared to the current offer. You can register until January 21, 2022.

The Global Nighttime Recovery Plan’s Chapter 3: Innovating For 24-Hour Cities examines the problems faced in creating safe and welcoming cities at night in the time of Covid-19.

When space for physical distance is in such high demand, creative time-based strategies that embrace the night hours can decongest valuable space and offer more economic and social opportunities. It is vital that municipalities, licensing and planning authorities, business groups and transit operators are proactive in addressing the three key areas of activation, illumination and movement in what is a fast-changing landscape of user behaviour and social norms

A healthy nighttime economy requires vision and design, planning, ongoing measuring and targeted communication campaigns. It must consider the needs of nightlife culture creators, participants and night workers alike. By addressing the three key areas of activation, illumination and movement – and accompanying them with ongoing surveys and communication campaigns – cities can not only bolster their night’s cultural offering, but increase the safety, desirability and economic viability of the city overall, so that the hours after dark are no longer feared or neglected, but embraced as a competitive edge. Now is the time for global cities to pick up the examples in this chapter and to adapt them to create their own solutions.

Tour de Moon is a cosmic adventure, a large-scale public festival of immersive experiences and live events developed in collaboration with our “universal satellite”: the Moon, seen as a character, a landscape and a prompt for radical imagination. The festival, composed of 8 programming strands, aims to reach millions of visitors across the UK and the world in 2022, through live and virtual experiences, supporting youth, nightlife creators, scientists and digital creators through cooperation. VibeLab’s Mirik Milan is supporting the project as a board member and advisor.

Tour de Moon is all about collaboration between scientists and nightlife creators so as to prompt radical imagination and new beginnings. Through their Bursary Scheme, Tour de Moon are committing to redistribute wealth – with funds they have received from their grant – whilst offering to empower others to create, to initiate and to innovate with new thinking and pluralistic practices so that history does not repeat itself on and beyond Earth.
